I’ve been trying to delete my account from some old online services I no longer use. Have you ever noticed that many services don’t make this easy? Or even possible?

It reminded me of a post I wrote over ten years ago – disembarking your application. A well designed exit process can be a memorable way to generate word of mouth conversations that encourage other people to try the service. The example I used long ago was disembarking from a cruise ship.

Jay Baer has written about a similar concept. He calls it Talk Triggers. One of the many examples he provides is the Doubletree Chocolate Chip Cookie.
